INTRODUCTION
Axie Infinity is an NFT-based online video game developed by Vietnamese studio Sky Mavis, which uses Ethereum-based cryptocurrencies, Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) and Smooth Love Potion (SLP).
Axie Infinity is a trading and battling game that allows players to collect, breed, raise, battle, and trade creatures known as “Axies” (characters based on axolotl), which are digitized as NFTs. New players need to purchase at least three Axies to begin playing which should estimate somewhere between $1000 to $1500 for all three NFTs.
This is a turn from traditional games where players spend money on in-game items to advance or get better without earning anything other than pleasure and adrenaline.
On Axie Infinity, players can earn Smooth Love Potions (SLP) by playing Adventures or Arena battles. SLP can then be used to breed Axies, or sold directly on an exchange (they can also be traded on the decentralised exchange – Uniswap).

The platform you play on does not influence how you earn or game play, only MMR, strategy and network connection are responsible for that.
AXIES
What is an Axie? Axies are fantasy creatures that players can battle, collect and raise. They’re available on Mavishub for trading, you can buy a full Axie or purchase an egg and hatch it, this however is risky as the kind of Axie you’d get isn’t determinable even if you know the parents. Axies come in different classifications; Reptiles, Plants, Aqua and Beasts.
Each Axie has different traits which determine their roles in battles. The traits are their stats and body parts.
Axies have 4 stats:
- Health
- Morale
- Skill
- Speed
Each Axie also has 6 body parts:
- Eyes
- Ears
- Horn
- Mouth
- Back
- Tail
These different body parts determine the kind of cards the Axie gets and affects the gameplay and strategy of the player.
The 4 different stats of Axies has different meanings, as follows:
- Health: The amount of damage your Axie can take before being knocked out.
- Morale: Morale increases critical strike chance. It also makes entering last stand more likely and more last stand ‘ticks’.
- Skill: Skill adds damage when an Axie plays multiple cards at once (combo). The extra damage is calculated like this: (card attack * skill )/ 500.
- Speed: Speed determines turn order. Faster Axies attack first. If two Axies have the same speed, this is how attack order is determined: High speed > Low HP > High Skill > High Morale > Low Fighter ID.
MODES
For a player to earn, you need to have an MMR rating above 800. If your MMR rating Falls below 800 you won’t be able to earn for the season, so you’d have to wait till the next season to start earning again. You only lose MMR in Arena mode. Everyday you’re given 20 energy which you exhaust by playing modes in the game. There are two modes in Axie Infinity from which players earn:
Adventure: This is a mode which allows players to battle against NPCs (None Playable Characters) and you earn by cleaning maps. Each win allows a player to level up Axies and earn SLPs, the amount of SLP and XP you earn is determined by the Axies level and the map level you cleared, meaning that Higher Axie levels and higher maps earn more SLPs and XPs. You can only earn 50 SLP daily from this mode and you only lose energy when you win a game.
Arena: In this mode players battle against players. It a test of strategy, formation and Axies strength. Depending on your MMR rating, you can earn quite a number of SLP daily from this mode. Unlike the adventure Mode, here you lose energy for every game you play, win or lose.
CLOSURE
As great as the opportunities offered by Axie Infinity may seem, there are as few challenges which players and prospective players face which include the high amount required to start playing. To solve this issue, you can join a guild, the guild will place you on a scholarship if you passed their tests and you’ll be able to play and earn but share your earnings with the guild. Before joining a guild, read their terms and pick one which suites your schedule and gaming strategy.
